General Newsletter – January & February 2018
Dear Members!
With the festive season now behind us, we can all look forward to another great sporting year.

Undoubtedly, the World Cup Soccer tournament is the biggest sporting event globally and for this reason the EXCOM have decided to upgrade Hackers. Amongst the changes will include two big screen TV sets with the option to select a specific DSTV sporting channel at any time. The changes will be made to create a better ambiance to our visitors and members who makes use of the facility. Lastly, the EXCOM would like to thank all our generous sponsors who made the vision possible.

News from the course:
The EXCOM has approved several improvements to the course. The rehabilitation area around the back of the 11th hole is still pending due to a delay caused by ongoing litigation between contractors and the Tshwane City Council. Meanwhile, the bunker on the front left of the 11th green has been altered into a grass bunker to create better playability.
The front right bunker on the 2nd hole was changed and a new fairway bunker on the right side of the hole (near the big dead Blue Gum tree) is underway.
The mound on front left front of the green has become too big and therefore compromised the green size and flag location. Therefore, it was levelled to give more pin placement options.

As some members have noticed recently, we had a major issue with our irrigation and water supply. As a result, some of our greens took the brunt during our high summer day temperatures recently. The issue was resolved after intervention by our Club Captain. It was later established that the Department of Correctional Services, who shares the same grey-water source with us, had overused the water supply. Meanwhile, some good rainfall of late has helped to the course to recover adequately.
Please note that season treatment and fertilising has been scheduled on the greens from 19th February 2018 onwards in preparation for the SA Airforce Championships and Club Championship that will be held in March and April respectively.
The intended work will commence later this month.

Annual Subscription Fees:
The new membership categories and fee structure was approved at the Special General Meeting last year as is now payable at the Admin Office. Members have been invoiced according to the new category structure. In addition to the changes, our House/ Domestic rules are currently being revised to incorporate the changes so that it is aligned with our Club’s Constitution. The new membership fee structure will also be posted on our website.

Board of Enquiry:
The Chief of the SANDF, General Solly Shoke commissioned an enquiry following the misappropriation Club funds in 2016. Lieutenant Colonel Wiekus Schoeman was duly appointed during the middle of 2017 as an interim measure to oversee the management of the Club. His tasking will be duel sided, both in the capacity as Chairperson and General Manager, until such time the Board has concluded it findings. On behalf of the EXCOM, we would like to thank Wiekus for the outstanding work and positive contribution to towards rebuilding of the Club.

News from the Links Golf Shop:
Rossouw Loubser has been appointed by David Riddle in the capacity as Golf Operations Manager for the Links Golf Shop. Besides being a former SANDF member and a multiple Sunshine Tour Winner, Rossouw also has deep roots engrained at the Club. His appointment will be widely welcomed and we wish him all the best with his new task going forward.
